The air is hanging heavy
I hear the rocking of a chair
The rooms are all so barren
No, nothing could be there
The curtains are hanging shredded
Plaster's falling off the walls
But the window’s cracked and bleeding
Blood's pouring down the halls
But the gardener keeps on trimming
And the maid keeps cleaning trays
All around the house is rotting
They don't watch as it decays
The paper keeps on coming
All the bills are paid on time
They’re content to call it harmony
But nothing ever rhymes
Perched by the crumbling fireplace
The piano strikes a tune
And is joined in by the voices
Though no one's in the room
Rain pelted all the windows
The lightning struck the sky
Although the plaster keeps on falling
But the house will never die
