I grew up with old-time religion
Guilt addiction and superstition
And the feelin' life was slippin’ through my hands
I used to be on a quest for vengeance
Ran around in circles; no one was listenin'
And I quit every band I've ever played in
But I don’t lie to myself
Even when they call it treason
And I pride myself on the things nobody knows
I don't define myself
By what we pretended to believe in
There's no reason why I still can't let it go
Sometimes I feel like a fool in love
Put on trial by cool kids club
And then I wondered how I got the way I am
Trying to fit the pieces in the puzzle
Remember the girls who acted untouchable
Cause they dated singers in christian rock bands
But I don't lie to myself
Even when they call it treason
And I pride myself on the things nobody knows
I don't define myself
By what we pretended to believe in
There's no reason why I still can't let it go
So tell me what I’m supposed to do
I blamed my whole damn life on you
And if you really didn’t cause
My insecurities and flaws
Then I'm just the loser that I always thought I was
But I don’t lie to myself
Even when they call it treason
And I pride myself on the things nobody knows
I don't define myself
By what we pretended to believe in
There's no reason why I still can't let it go
